It’s been a while I know since my last dispatch. We ran into a bit of trouble, well that’s putting it mildly. Seems we didn’t get all of the necessary permits that we were suppose too. Ling-Ling was in charge of that, and well, ‘long story short’, we were all thrown in jail, and stuck there for the last month. Finally an old ally of mine paid the fines, and smoothed over all of our ‘issues’ with the locals. We charted a plane and were airborne within an hour of being sprung out of jail. Sadly the trail to find Dirk has gone cold, or so I thought…We received a telegram that Dirk is in Istanbul…So, off we go…Will write soon, Kate ‘Kiki’ Farnsworth.

Looks like I was wrong, we found Dirk’s Bowie knife, his initials are carved into the handle. My spirits are down, but I have to remind myself, just because we found his knife does not mean he’s… Gone. I can’t even bring myself to say dead, because I know that he’s not dead. We haven’t found his body in the caves, and we searched all of them. We are back in the jungle now, trying to figure out what to do next. Will write more soon, Kate ‘Kiki’ Farnsworth.
Dispatch #12
Mud! The cave must have flooded a few days ago. We were hiking along at a rather decent clip until we found ourselves knee-deep in it. Now we have to wonder if Dirk was somehow trapped in the flood. We’ve found a few items in the cave that might have belonged to him, well honestly, they could have belonged to anyone, a canteen, a knife, and a bandana. Nothing on these items have his name or his initials on them. I will keep hoping he’s alive. Will write more soon, Kate ‘Kiki’ Farnsworth.
Dispatch #11
Caves!! I hate caves as you know. This one is long, dark and damp. I can feel things clawing at my hair, and hear things scurrying at my feet. I don’t want to know what they are. I just want to get to Dirk. This cave seems to go on forever, and the cave writings seem to upset our guides, most of which have turned back. We now only have Diego and Raul, both mem keep making the sign of the cross as we go deeper into this cave. I hope the gesture protects us, will write soon. Kate ‘Kiki’ Farnsworth.

Lost!! Well at least we were for several days, until I realized that Dirk has a strange way of drawing a map. Since he was always sure someone was going to steal it or try to steal it, he would draw the map in reverse. So once we reversed the map, we started to get somewhere. It’s a strange way of doing things, but if you knew how paranoid Dirk is, you would understand. Now that we figured out the correct path, and we’re done walking in circles we’ve discovered a set of caves. The map is telling us to walk into the left cave, which means we go right. I will write more soon..

I thought I knew how to read a map, but apparently that isn’t the case. We’ve been wondering through the jungle for days now, we’ve even come across trail markers that we dropped days before, or we believe we had dropped them. Perhaps we aren’t the only ones out here, and someone is trying to throw us off the right trail. I’ve been talking to our guide, and he assures me to ignore the map, and trust him, he knows the correct way. As it turns out his brother was the one who led Dirk’s expedition into the jungle some time back, his brother didn’t make it out either, so he’s as motivated to find him as I am to find Dirk. Think good thoughts, I will cable soon if possible. Kate ‘Kiki; Farnsworth.

Sailing to South America, mind you not in the glamorous fashion I had always dreamed about, but on a cargo ship. The monk back at the monastery told me to be careful, and watch my back. he said that Dirk had begged him to warn me of the danger. ‘Tell her she’s not the only one looking for the treasure, she should expect to be followed.’ So, here I am in my tiny cabin, sailing into a possibly dangerous situation in the jungle, I could not be happier! Will cable soon, Kate ‘Kiki’ Farnsworth.

Seems like the trail isn’t as cold as we might have thought. Dirk had been in this part of the world. He stumbled into one of the monasteries, cold, sick and starving. The monk said he was half out of his mind ranting about a gold mine, and lost treasure. They couldn’t make any sense of it, but he had left behind a letter for ‘Kiki’. My heart was pounding in my chest as I opened the crumpled envelope, which Dirk must have carried around with him for weeks. Inside was a map of South America, and a small note to me. ‘Kiki, I know you can find it, it’s what where we always thought it would be. Love Dirk’ The ‘it’ Dirk was referring to is treasure, the ‘where’ is the jungle. Now if I can just get to it before Dr. Hargreaves and his group…
Dispatch #6
Now I know why they call it the ‘Top of the World’, I can’t breathe. Well I can breathe, I just can’t talk at the same time. We’ve cover every monastery that the coin dealer suggested, and so far no one remembers seeing a westerner who had passed through these parts. I’m worried that we might be on a cold trail, which at this point might lead us back to the Gobi. Well, we have one more monastery, and then back to the desert, I will cable if anything changes.
